چکیده

A data reduction method based on numerical solutions of the heat conduction equation has been developed for obtaining thermal diffusivity values from thermal flash measurements. Using the new method, the computed evolution in temperature is fitted to the measured temperature evolution instead of using the t1/2 point alone, as is done in many other analyzes. The numerical solutions used are based on the finite-difference technique applied to the heat conduction equation including all the boundary conditions. A nonlinear least-squares regression technique is used to estimate simultaneously the thermal diffusivity, the heat transfer coefficient and the absorbed energy. Also, the effect of a finite pulse-width can be corrected without knowing the exact shape of the heat pulse. Published by Elsevier B.V.

A Parameter Estimation Procedure in Thermal Diffusivity Measurements Using the Laser Flash Method

Paper presents the application of Gauss estimation procedure in measuring thermal diffusivity of single materials using the laser pulse method. Unlike procedures, based on that originally established by Parker et al., where thermal diffusivity is derived using one or more characteristic points of experimental signal, this one belongs to socalled inverse technique, which makes use of complete me...

Development of a Moving Finite Element-Based Inverse Heat Conduction Method for Determination of Moving Surface Temperature

A moving finite element-based inverse method for determining the temperature on a moving surface is developed. The moving mesh is generated employing the transfinite mapping technique. The proposed algorithms are used in the estimation of surface temperature on a moving boundary with high velocity in the burning process of a homogenous low thermal diffusivity solid fuel. The measurements obtain...

The least square method in the determination of thermal diffusivity using a flash method

2014 This paper is devoted to the description of a fitting method of experimental data for the model of Parker et al. [1] used in thermal diffusivity measurements by a laser flash method. The presented method is adapted to the fitting case when the noise frequencies are in the spectral band of the transient signal, thus making the filtering by a low-pass band filter difficult if not impossible....

Flash Experiment on a Semitransparent Material : Interest of a Reduced Model

The subject deals with a reduced model of the conductiveradiative transient transfer in a participating medium. The accuracy of the analytical solution based on the well-known two-flux approximation and expressed with global radiative coefficients is tested in the case of sharp thermal excitation by a heat pulse on the front face of anisotropically scattering media. A very good agreement is ach...

The thermal diffusivity and conductivity of transformation-toughened solid solutions of alumina and chromia

The thermal diffusivity of a series of solid solutions of alumina and chromia transformation toughened with a dispersed phase of unstabilized zirconia was measured by means of the laser-flash method from room temperature to 1400 ~ C. It was found, in general, that the thermal diffusivity could be decreased significantly by the combined effects of solid solution alloying, microcracking and by th...
